Building brilliance

Students engage with 'Sensing Spaces'

Published 19 March 2014

It’s not only the critics who have been hailing the success of ‘Sensing Spaces’; the exhibition has been a huge hit with school groups too.

  • Since the show opened at the end of January, we’ve welcomed over 3,000 primary, secondary and university students for our workshops and exhibition tours. In addition, over 4,000 children and teenagers have made use of our special Sensing Spaces Art Detective trail. The trail encourages kids to explore the exhibition using all their senses, with a colourful map as a guide and a few questions to help them interact with the installations along the way.

Here are some great images below of school visits and the work they’ve produced during our creative workshops, exploring themes of architecture and space.

  • We also love to receive artworks created back in the classroom after your visit, please feel free to email these to us. Check out this atmospheric short film made by Jonny Rogers, a year 11 student at Dr Challoner’s Grammar School in Amersham, Bucks.

And below are several amazing responses to Sensing Spaces from the Royal Masonic School for Girls.

There are still a few weeks of the exhibition left, so if you are a teacher and would like to book a guided or self-guided tour of the exhibition for your students, or if you simply want to email us images of your or your students’ work, please contact the Learning team at studentgroups@royalacademy.org.uk.

  • Many thanks for setting up a fantastic day for our group. They enjoyed every second of it and they were gushing about the experience. It was a brilliant exhibition and the children got a lot out of it.
