From his large-scale and intricate collages to works created from multicoloured match heads, colour plays a key role in the work of David Mach RA.

The Turner Prize-nominated artist is one of three Royal Academicians who have created special interior paint ranges for the RA in partnership with Colour & Paint.

Many of the colours in the range are influenced by his native Scotland - from sea glass collected from the beaches of the Fife coast (home of “the most fabulous light in the country”) to memories of a childhood journey over the Forth Rail Bridge.

In the videos below, David Mach talks in detail about how colour has seeped from his life into his work.

The new RA paint range features four palettes consisting of a total of 56 shades. Three of the palettes have been selected by Academicians: Will Alsop, David Mach, and Ken Howard. The fourth palette features colours that have been used on the gallery walls during Royal Academy exhibitions.
